The EPDM ballast terrace roofs are easy to install at low costs. The EPDM membrane is basically fixed around the perimeter and covered with at least 60 kg/sqm ballast layer to ensure stability during wind conditions, thermal insulation and for aesthetics.
The ballast layer is mostly made up of small diameter round ballast, however concrete/stone slabs on sand bed or WPC paving can as well be used.
Actually, the ballast can be combined of all variants of ballast. In this case, protect the membrane with a geotextile layer min 200g/sqm.
In the case of the inverted terrace system, the thermal insulation is mounted over the waterproofing so that it is no longer necessary to use the geotextile to protect the EPDM membrane.
In order to use this system, the resistance engineer must take into account the load capacity of the slab.
The EPDM membrane offered for roofs in ballast system is prefabricated to the required dimensions . Where appropriate, three-dimensional elements such as exterior corners, luminaire sockets or pipe connections are prefabricated and attached to the membrane.
